How To Wear A Pear Shaped Diamond

Diamond trends come and go like the changing seasons, and one particular shape of diamond has made a resurgence lately as a popular choice: the pear-shaped diamond. Not that long ago, (way back in 2001) this shape seemed to have fallen out of favor. Fans of the popular HBO show Sex and the City might recall how main character Carrie Bradshaw turned her nose up at just such an engagement ring. Luckily, modern brides are embracing this brilliantly cut diamond shape for good reason, and we are here to help you learn how to wear it best.

Why You Should Wear A Pear Shaped Diamond

One of the best reasons to choose a pear shaped diamond is because its cut cleverly creates the illusion of a much bigger rock. The elongated shape which is pointy on one end and round on the other actually boasts a slightly larger surface area on the table of the diamond. Pear shaped diamonds have 58 facets that are cut similarly to a brilliant cut diamond, which also means they boast a lot of sparkle.

Which Way Should Pointy End Out or In?

Traditionally, brides have preferred to wear this style of diamond with the tapered end pointing toward the fingertips, so it resembles a teardrop. Ultimately, it's really up to you whether you wear your pear shaped diamond with the pointy end directed out like this or in toward your wrist, which would be a bold and unique take on the classic.

How to Stack a Pear Shaped Diamond

When it comes to pairing your pear shaped diamond engagement ring with a wedding band, we recommend choosing to stack them on the rounded side of the pear shape. This contour will be easier to match and will bring a dazzling new dimension to your set. If you do choose to stack a ring against the pointy end of the pear shaped diamond, go for a fun chevron shape or even an open ring for a fresh look!
