Can A Marquise Diamond Be Recut?

Can A Marquise Diamond Be Recut?

As its full name suggests, the brilliant marquise diamond, often known as the "Navette" shape, which means "little boat," employs the well-known brilliant cut for maximum brilliance and luster. Marquise diamonds have a long, thin form, and since they contain so many facets, they appear bigger.

The marquise cut is adaptable and may be set in several ring designs. They can be placed vertically, horizontally, or as accent stones. They can also be trimmed to varying widths to fit different setting sizes in other jewelry items.

Can Marquise Diamond Be Recut?

A jeweler can recut a marquise diamond in order to change its shape or size. This process can be done to diamonds of any shape or size, but it is typically done to marquise diamonds because of their unique shape.

The perfect marquise has a length-to-width cut ratio of 1.75 to 2.25. If the diamond is cut too shallow, the ends will be too thin and fragile. If the diamond is cut too deep, it will appear too wide. Because the stone is long and thin, the tips are prone to shattering after extended use. Consider recutting the diamond if this occurs.

How Is a Marquise Diamond Recut?

When a marquise diamond is recut, the process is similar to that of any other diamond. First, the diamond is cut into a rough shape; then, the facets are cut into the surface of the diamond. Finally, the diamond is polished to a high shine.

Advantages of Recutting a Marquise Diamond

  1. Recutting a marquise diamond can help to improve its symmetry and overall appearance.
  2. It can also help to increase the diamond's brilliance and fire.
  3. Recutting can also help to increase the diamond's carat weight, which can be especially beneficial if the original marquise diamond is on the smaller side.
  4. Finally, recutting can help to improve the diamond's clarity by removing any blemishes or inclusions that may be present on the surface of the stone.
